Significant performance improvements and reductions in operating costs can be achieved by modifying cooling towers to reduce water temperatures. Following independent testing, the Vistech team will implement recommendations to deliver significantly improved cooling tower performance.
For example, our team achieved an impressive reduction of almost 5°C in water temperature for one customer by replacing the packing and distribution system with high performance alternatives.
Cut operating costs and increase performance compared to original manufacturers packs. The polypropylene construction is environmentally friendly and the unique welded construction is more robust compared to glued or mechanically assembled packs.
The need for regular cleaning is well established in combating legionella. However, the surface area of packing is over 100 times that of the cooling tower casing and much harder to clean. Water treatment is not enough. Sections of packing are often not fully wetted and so not treated.
Installation of anti-legionella packing solves the problem and can assist with the problem of system reinfection. The packing is impregnated with a wash/ leach resistant biocide that’s effective against a range of bacteria for up to 5 years.
The last line of defence against legionella in an evaporative system and crucial to cooling tower design. ACOP L8 states:
“Modern drift eliminators[...] should be fitted to all towers They should be well fitted and selected on the basis of their ability to reduce the release of small water droplets – there should be no visible drift released from the tower.”
And from an HSE report following legionnaires outbreaks in the West Midlands:
“The importance of drift eliminators as a first tier engineering control under COSHH is not widely appreciated“
The report continued by identifying:
“there are likely a large number of cooling towers in use with defective or ineffective eliminators“.
